Ozkar Hope is the embodiment of all actors who year in and year out struggle to give breathtaking performances under the most difficult circumstances. While trying to pay their rent take care of their children help out friends who are also struggling to survive but who still find the time to perform in a play in some obscure theater and try to inspire an audience to feel the depth of what it is to be human. And give them hope.
The Ozkar Hope Award is to symbolize in nature as the unknown soldier is to those who served in the armed forces and died in a battle where they were unable to be identified but fought with a gallant heart right to the end and only their fellow soldiers knew them by their real name who served along side them in battle. In the world of actors they too have sacrificed their life for their country as artists and many great actors die unknown only their fellow actors know them by name who served with them on the obscure stages of the many unknown theaters throughout our country.
Many great actors die alone and unknown. I have personally known many. All actors who stay in the theater their whole lives know someone who was an extraordinary actor but who had never gotten that big break to propel them to Stardom fame and fortune. Nor have they received the kind of acknowledgment from their work publicly.
So, the intention of this award is that it will be given to as many worthy Actors and any other members of a production that earns the honor.
The intention is that if an Actor is given an Ozkar Hope Award then those people in the industry will know that this person is someone they should give a chance to work. That they have been selected for more serious attention. And perhaps it will give them the opportunity that OZKAR HOPE had once wished he would have had. But that in his memory he can help others get the opportunity's he just didn't get. It is symbolic gesture of love and kindness to ones fellow unknown great Actors who are underground actors and living in a state of exile living and working and performing outside the establishments limited opportunities.
Ozkar Hope wanted to give these Actors hope to go on whether they ever attain the recognition by the establishment or not. That their contribution mattered. That their lives had meaning and dignity whether or not the world at large ever knew. But by receiving the OZKAR HOPE Award you would know that someone knew that you could attain greatness with the right opportunity. And that knowing that you were discovered and Awarded you could always know no matter what that you had already made a difference... that you did have value... and that you would always be listed along with other recipients a place of honor as the unknown soldier is honored in our capital.
The fictitious underground acting coach Marty Savakovich will be choosing the recipients.
The real creator of the Award will remain anonymous. Ozkar Hope is also a fictitious name as is common for Actors to use fictitious names ...so in that tradition Ozkar Hope is born. He was an Actor who always gave his best even under the most difficult circumstances. And so in his name the Award will be given.
It's purpose is to give hope to the actors who receive it that no matter what they do in their career throughout their lives ... they will know that they are appreciated and loved by Ozkar Hope who also lived the same life as a dedicated underground unknown actor.
The award will be given to as many professional Actors as well as all other positions in the theater film and television as possible. No one will receive an award that does not deserve it. That is the only restriction.
Ozkar Hope always said, " it was better to give then to receive ". He would have been proud to know he was chosen as the model for such an award... because he lived a life that gave so many people hope after seeing his work.
As Marty Savakovich say's. “It's the work ... That's what it's about. It's always about the work. And that's what OZKAR HOPE stood for... and that's what this Award is about... the work.”
